My team at Flyline Search Marketing created this video for Jack Fussell. He is planning to run across the United States, for a second time, to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease and to help generate donations to the Alzheimer's Association, in order to help the fund research in their battle to find a cure.

Jack is currently training for his "Across The Land 2015" run, at Amicalola Falls State Park, here in Georgia. Jack is currently 63 years old, and just 13 short years ago, weighed almost 300 pounds. Jack had been told by his physician that he had only months to live and that drove Jack to prove them wrong. He began walking at Amicalola Falls. At first, he could not walk very far, but, he got out everyday and tried. Slowly the weight began to come off. Jack began to work on his diet. Watching his diet, coupled with the walking, began to accelerate the weight loss.
In 2013, Jack ran across the United States for the first time. He ran from Skidaway Island State Park, located in South Georgia, to Monterey, California. He raised more than $29,000 dollars for the Alzheimer's Association during his first run. The goal is to raise even more during the 2015 run.

Alzheimer's disease affects more than 5 million people here in the United States. There currently is no cure for the disease. Alzheimer's disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. 1 in 3 seniors will die from Alheimer's disease. You can make a difference by supporting Jack. My wife and I are heading to Bozeman, Montana to meet with prospective new clients and then planning to travel on down to Yellowstone National Park for a few days of fun. This will be our first trip to Montana and we hope to land some business in the area. It will be our second trip together to Yellowstone.

America's first National Park, Yellowstone is situated primarily in Wyoming, but, there are also small sections of the park that lap over into Montana and Idaho. The park is truly one of the most beautiful and unique spots on the planet. What makes the park unique is the fact that Yellowstone is actually the largest volcanic caldera anywhere in the world. When you enter the park one of the first things you will discover is that the park has geysers and geothermic features and activity occurring everywhere. One of the most famous geysers in the park is of course the Old Faithful Geyser.

Wildlife In Yellowstone National Park

There is a wide variety of wildlife that can be found within the park boundaries. One of the most majestic are the Elk. The Elk herds roam freely throughout the park each Summer.

The Buffalo herds in Yellowstone are incredible. Buffalo roam all over the park and don't be surprised if you have to stop frequently while driving through the park in order to allow them to cross the road.

Oh yeah, did I mention the park is absolutely full of bears. There are both Black Bears and Grizzlies present in the park. You will likely have to work hard to get a good photo of Yellowstone bears. Over the years the park service has worked hard to teach these critters to stay out of areas where humans are and to find their food sources in natural areas. Most of the time the bears cooperate. Sometimes they don't and you get a great photo op. Just don't let them get to close because these are apex predators! They eat meat!

One of the most iconic creatures in the park are the wolves. They are elusive and often hard to get a look at during the Summer months. They are far more active during Winter when the packs reach their peak strength during their heavy Winter feeding.

The meal of choice for any predator fast enough to catch them are the Pronghorn Antelope. For the record, these Yellowstone Pronghorn Antelope are the fastest critters on the North American continent. Even so, most of the apex predators in the park do consider them part of the food chain and occasionally do catch one through stealth and ambush tactics.

The most elusive creature in the Park is the Yellowstone Cougar. These cougars are apex predators and pretty much feed on all of the ungulates in the park. The are abuse hunters and also possess enough quick burst speed and strength to bring down a bull Elk, Deer, Pronghorn Antelope or Bighorn Sheep, assuming of course that they can creep within striking distance.
The stretch of river you are watching is part of the Chama River, approximately 3 miles below the El Vado Lake Dam. The ranch offers wonderful accomodations and is pretty much accessible year round. The owner is a dear friend named David Cooper. Hope you make time at some point soon to visit Coopers El Vado Ranch. When you do please give my friend and brother David a big hug from me and Jannie please.
Flyline Search Marketinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13994208871654360480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1439615743581507955.post-61083636858563642902011-10-16T12:27:00.000-07:002011-10-16T12:27:45.904-07:00Fishing The Chama River at El Vado Ranch

Spent some quality time at David Coopers ranch in September. We were only there for a few days, but, found plenty of time to get in some trout fishing. Check out the fish below. I caught this beautiful brown about downstream from the ranch. The fish is approximately 22 inches in length and was pretty big and fat! The Chama river trout fight as hard as any fish I've caught anywhere. This particular fish fought for well over 10 minutes before I was able to finally land it. In fact, I never got a look at the fish, other that a couple magestic arial leaps in the middle of the river, until just before I netted it.

In fact, I grew up with current ranch owner, David Cooper. David took over the ranch from his parents some years ago. The ranch is located near the El Vado Dam and is approximately a 2 hour drive north from Santa Fe, New Mexico. The ranch has some of the best fishing around. The cabins at the ranch are well maintained and equipped for full kitchens. I suggest that you make a grocery stop at the Walmart in Espanola before coming up as the nearest restaurant is High Country in Chama.

Just below the dam is the San Juan River. This river is world famous and contains some incredible fish. I took my father, Roy Lein, over for a day of fishing and he and I had an incredible time. We caught plenty of fish and really enjoyed our day together. The river is catch and release and no live bait can be utilized. We grabbed a guide and used a float boat which I highly recommend. This river is truly too deep to effectively wade much. There are some nice spots for wading, however, those spots would be pretty hard to hike into.

Thought you would enjoy seeing the beautiful Chama River in northern New Mexico. Watch the video and between 3 to 4 minutes in, you can experience what it is actually like to cross the old swinging suspension bridge. The bridge is attached to a tree on one side of the river and bored into the mountain on the other. I highly recommend this activity! I have been crossing this bridge since the age of 6 and can't think of anything or any place I enjoy more. By the way, my good friend David Cooper, has some awesome cabins that he rents that are located right along the river. Great for fishing, hunting or just getting away from the big city for a week or so.

Black Canyon - Gunnison, Colorado

The Lein's enjoyed a quite moment in Gunnison, Colorado while taking in the Black Canyon National Park. The walls of the canyon are incredibly steep and well suited for extreme rock climbing. Mark & Jan had been in Leadville, Colorado while crewing and pacing for David Hersey who had been participating in the Leadville Trail 100 "Race Across The Sky." The drive from Leadville to Black Canyon took approximately 7 hours, but, as you can see from the incredible photos, was well worth the effort.
Black Canyon was carved out by the Gunnison River, which flows through the heart of the canyon. As you can see, the walls of the canyon are really steep and very sharp. The river at the bottom of the canyon is hundreds of feet below the top of the gorge. From the top of the canyon, the river is an absolutely beautiful shade of turqoise. The river is full of huge trout, but, fishing in the gorge is virtually impossible. The park does offer access to the bottom of the gorge, but, I suggest you take a camera versus a fishing pole. There is a total of 14 miles of canyon that falls within the boundaries of the Black Canyon National Park. The canyon itself actually stretches for more than 53 miles total. To give you an idea of how steep the river fall is in the park, the Gunnison falls an average of 95 feet per mile. That is staggering when you compare it to the Colorado River which falls only an average of 7.5 feet per mile.
The cabin you see above is acutally the ranger station and main visitor center for the park. These park rangers really know how to live don't they! How would you like to work in a place with this kind of view everyday?

Winter still has a very strong grip on Yellowstone National Park. In fact, it's still freezing cold in the park at this point in February. The first glimmers of Spring are still more than a month away. I really enjoy the special beauty of this place. There aren't many places in the World where you can see images like the one above. The geo-thermal features of Yellowstone are absolutely phenominal.
Can't wait to see the oil painting that comes from these photos. Pat also happens to be my beautiful mother and I am so very proud of her. Thanks for the beautiful photo's mom.
One of the best times of year to visit Yellowstone National Park is Fall. Just before Winter, there is so much activity going on in the park. The bears are feeding heavily trying to prepare for 6 months in their dens. The Elk and Bison are beginning to migrate towards the lower elevations where they will find better Winter feeding opportunities. The park service is closing roads and certain areas within the park that will be harder hit by the soon to fall snow.

Well I did 20 miles instead of the 31 that I planned to do, but, I had an awesome time in Chattanooga. My hat is off to the folks who put on the Chattanooga Stump Jump 50K. They really did a wonderful job and I personally had a great time. The course was excellent. I highly recommend it to any trail runner. I promise, you will love it, but, do your preparation before you get to the race. The course is extremely challenging and will extract it's pound of flesh if you go unprepared.

The race is held in October which is the perfect time of year to run it. The temperatures were a bit chilly at race start time, but, quickly warmed up to a comfortable 70 degrees by midday. My training for this run will be more extensive next year. I was prepared for the climbing, but, wasn't ready to deal with the extremely technical downhills. The rock garden was also an interesting challenge. It amounted to half a mile of bouldering. Pretty cool, but, diffently a challenge at 16 miles into the run.

The video above depicts my beautiful wife Jan crossing the swinging bridge at El Vado Ranch, in northern New Mexico. The bridge was constructed by a great friend of ours, David Cooper. Dave owns, Coopers El Vado Ranch. We make it a point to visit Coop at least once per year to spend time with he and his family. Folks, the fishing is awesome at Coopers El Vado ranch. For Jan and I, El Vado Ranch is as much a part of the New Mexico landscape as the red rock peaks surrounding Shiprock mountain or the Sandia Mountains facing the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is part of who we are!
